Getting the perfect pose

Use what you train as it applies to various situations

Getting the perfect pose

Getting a pup to sit still long enough to  snap that perfect pose, can be quite the challenge. Of course, basic obedience training with skills of SIT and STAY can be a tremendous help.

Regardless, try using small training treats or a favorite toy to capture your pup's attention and to motivate them to focus toward you.

FYI....Dogs can be camera shy as they view it as direct eye contact and in some dogs, an uneasy feeling  evolves.  focusing on something else such as treats or toys can prevent them from looking straight at the camera, preventing that uneasy feeling, creating a positive experience and capturing a great picture.

Here, Tony was working with two German Shepherd puppies. He was using training treats and did get the perfect picture... eventually!

While learning in our Basics class, working with your pup between classes is crucial.  Doing so gives your pup a more reliable understanding of the behavior you are training. Once that behavior is becoming more reliable, we advise that you train out of the typical class setting.

Practice SIT, before putting dinner kibble on the floor, practice  LEAVE IT by using something he isn't allowed to have . Doing so, your pup becomes more mannered  regarding your routine and home structure.

Here, Ginger is working with an adorable pup during one of our Advanced classes. She was using a targeting skill to gain a more reliable recall.

It worked!
